In the film industry, sunrise and sunset are both referred to as “Magic Hour” or “Golden Hour.” The sky is deep blue and the sun is low in the horizon, which gives it a “golden” hue. Magic hour is beautiful, but it’s also a huge pain in the ass. The sun is moving at an incredible speed, which can make continuity impossible. The short time window creates a lot of pressure on the crew and talent. And, the filmmakres only get a couple of shots or even takes before magic hour has passed.
So how to do we recreate the magic on a soundstage, where filmmakers can shoot all day and all night without loosing the light?
